Vegetable Gardens UK Redesigned
Vegetable-gardens.co.uk was a chance for us to redesign and rebrand a growing UK vegetable gardening resource which despite looking a little less for wear had picked up a small but growing readership thanks to it’s friendly forum community.
Combine the above with regularly published short tutorial and growing guide type articles and you have a site which is just itching to grow
How It Looked
Take a look at the screenshots below for how the site originally looked.
What We Did
The overall look and feel had to be green and we very quickly came up with a fixed width design that not only looked right for the whole vegetable gardening niche but was carefully arranged so that it would maximise the visibility of all the helper guides and articles contained within the site.
With plans on the horizon to further expand the sites publishing efforts we made sure the navigation system wouldn’t buckle with more and varied content being added in the future. For this we made sure the navigation was two tiered. A horizontal menu at the top for quick access into the major sections and an expanded menu in the sidebar to help drill into the more specific subject matters.
As well as the cosmetic changes the site also benefitted from moving from a static table based HTML implementation to a fully compliant XHTML/CSS codebase running on wordpress. This benefitted the site on multiple levels including better SEO urls, a solid search and archiving facility, and of course the ability to quickly and easily add content. Remember the old site was just a bunch of HTML files put together on the fly.

Nice work, you totally revamped the place..
